Lyande Kaikai: Championing Education, Equality, and Community Development in Sierra Leone

Lyande Kaikai is an advocate for education and community development in Sierra Leone. As the founder of K2 Generation School, she has demonstrated her leadership through the creation of a preschool that currently serves 50 children, employing qualified teachers, teaching assistants, and a nanny who helps with potty training and feeding. The school fosters equality, with 45% of the children being girls and 20% having a disability or learning difficulty, ensuring that all children receive the support they need.

Lyande's commitment to quality education is reflected in the school's impressive 97% attendance rate, and the fact that 100% of the children are sponsored to cover their school fees, meals, and healthcare. The school has a strong partnership with parents, hosting monthly Parent Teacher Association meetings to discuss the school’s policies, educational needs, and community involvement.

In terms of education, Lyande's school has made significant progress, with students mastering basic skills like the alphabet, numbers, and primary colors. Children are also improving their English proficiency and participating in sports activities, while learning about global events like Christmas, Valentine’s Day, and World Book Day. Moreover, the school focuses on health and nutrition, providing freshly cooked meals, promoting hygiene practices, and encouraging good dental care.

The school also aligns with the Sierra Leone government’s "Big 5" priorities by focusing on agriculture. It has garden beds where children learn about farming and grow vegetables, helping them understand the importance of agriculture in their country’s development.

Thanks to the generous donations of supporters (https://www.gofundme.com/f/kais-adventure-playground-nursery), Lyande raised over £25,000 to help build the school, enabling its success and continued expansion. These donations have helped provide crucial resources for the school’s infrastructure and programs, impacting the lives of many children in the community.

With proven dedication and a track record of creating positive change, Lyande Kaikai is the ideal candidate to be the Secretary General of SLPP UKI, bringing her passion for education, equality, community development, and sustainable agriculture to a wider platform.
